Info

My name is Jarkko Rotstén, also known as Roz as a musician. I was born in 1980 in a small town called Vammala. I started composing electronic music in 1992. Tracker programs such as Protracker were the thing back then. I composed hundreds of songs with very simple setup before gaining some real synthesizer equipment. Novadays I use Cubase 5 with some awesome plugins to compose several styles of music. During the years I’ve made music for adverts, videos, games and various other projects.

I’ve also done dj:ing since 1999. I’ve played in several parties over Finland during the years, sharing the stage with some top artists. I also enjoy playing my music live. I’ve played live techno & house gigs around Finland and also abroad.

[ WORK ]

I work full-time in a music store called Tampereen Musiikki, located here in Tampere, Finland. My main areas in the store are the music soft- and hardware and sheet music and I’m also capable of selling keyboards and synthesizers. I’m also a freelance journalist. I’ve written game and record reviews and articles for V2.fi since 2007 and for smackthejack.net since 2004. I also wrote game reviews for Peliplaneetta.net between 2004-2007.

[ DEMOSCENE ]

I’ve been seriously involved in demoscene since 1996 when I joined the group Rave Network Overscan (RNO). Since that I’ve been a member of various groups as a musician and I’ve done hundreds of songs with trackers, mainly four channel modules. I’m still a member of RNO, Fit and wAMMA.

Fit has won the demo competition three times in Motorola Inside party – Chrysler, Hex Pistols and Stercus Accidit are all Amiga demos I’ve composed the soundtrack for all of them. In Icons ‘08 Fit’s demo Boy won the demo compo. In Assembly ‘06 RNO’s demo Fruitcake won the oldskool demo competition with a kick ass Amiga demo with my 90s inspired music in it. Few years back RNO won the browser demo competition at The Party. In Assembly ‘03, Marq/Fit’s Leeko came 3rd at 64k intro compo. I composed the music with using notepad and Marq’s softsynth.

I’ve also done some coding with BlitzMax and Dark Basic Professional. In Stream’05 party wAMMA came 7th in the combined demo compo with Diskobaby. In Assembly ‘06 I coded a wAMMA demo called Diskoalifight and it came on 8th place. Few months after that, I co-coded a wAMMA demo called Rajut Hevit for Stream’06 party, and again it came on 8th place. I also made music for all these demos and some of the graphics too. wAMMA also came 3rd at demo competition at Icons ‘07 with a demo called Grandtheftmod. At Assembly 2007 we came 9th at democompo with the demo Helium Copper. Sadly, I haven’t had enough time to code lately.

[ GAME MAKING ]

I have also tried my wings in game making. Together with Matti Lintula aka Zeroic, we released a game called SpaceTruck for Assembly ‘06 game dev competition. It wasn’t a big success since it came last in the competition.
